EFT
Frequently Asked Questions
How was EFT
discovered?
EFT stands for Emotional
Freedom Technique and is quickly
gaining a prominent place among other
known and established advanced
therapies. In order for us to
understand where EFT originated from, we
must first learn about its genesis.
EFT was developed by a man called Gary
Craig; with the help of a psychologist,
named Dr Roger Callahan. Gary has
probably devised one of the most
important healing tools ever known to
man.
Gary is a fully qualified engineer and
an ordained minister but he has never
quite got around to doing any
engineering. Gary is very knowledgeable
and has a lifelong interest in
alternative remedies. It was this love of
alternative therapies that lead Gary to
devise EFT or Emotional Freedom
Technique .
One day Gary came across something
called Thought Field Therapy. Thought
Field Therapy began in the early
seventies. Like all the best things
Thought Field Therapy was dreamed up by a
bit of astute thinking and a bit of a
clever hunch by Dr Callahan.
Dr Callahan was somewhat fed up with
his success rates in treating his
patients. Dr Callahan reasoned that if
psychologists were being honest, they
would only help about 10% of people who
come to see them. Assisting the 10% they
can help often takes months or even years
of therapy.
It was because of this frustration
that led him to seek out alternative
methods to cure his patients. At that
point in time Dr Callahan had been a
psychologist for over 20 years.
Dr Callahan was treating a patient
with a severe fear of water; the patient
could not do anything associated with
water like take a shower or go to the
swimming pool. Her hydrophobia was so bad
she could not even think of water or even
watch water on the TV. In trying to cure
her Dr Callahan tried all manners of
therapies such as cognitive, behavioral
and systematic desensitization.
After months of therapy, Dr Callahan
managed the astonishing feat of
persuading his patient to sit by the
pool. The problem was by the time the
patient came back for her next session,
it took at least an hour of therapy to
get her back to the point where she felt
comfortable sitting by the pool. When one
day Dr Callahan asked the patient what
she thought about water, what was her
feeling and where did her fear originate
from, the patient replied that she felt a
horrible feeling in the pit of her
stomach. Dr Callahan knew that the
stomach meridian was connected to points
located under the eye. He asked his
patient to try tapping under her eye.
After a couple of minutes of tapping the
client announced it had gone.
Dr Callahan was unsure what she meant
by that, so he asked what had gone.
The patient revealed that the feeling in
the pit of her stomach had vanished and
just ran to the edge of the pool!
Dr Callahan got worried and shouted at
her.
The patient turned around and laughed and
said. “Don't worry Dr Callahan
I haven't gone stupid. I know I can't
swim.”
It was at this point that Dr Callahan
realized he had the beginnings of
something very special. Dr Callahan went
on conducting more research into
"tapping" the other Chinese meridian
points and thus created Thought Field
Therapy.
After carefully studying Thought Field
Therapy with Dr Callahan, Gary could
already see ways to take it to a higher
level. Gary used the skills he had learnt
from other alternative advanced
therapies such as NLP and
hypnosis to improve on Thought Field
Therapy. He named his new idea, Emotional
Freedom Techniques.

FAQs
What is
EFT?
Plainly speaking EFT of Emotional
Freedom Technique is a psychological
version of acupuncture with one major
difference, no needles are used, you
simply tap the acupressure points with
your fingers.

Which is better
EFT or hypnosis?
In a way EFT is the new hypnosis. Both
therapies have their own merits but I
would say EFT is the
better therapy as
- It produces a much higher success
rate
- It is also quicker and can cure
more things than hypnosis can
- With EFT you are fully awake during
the whole session

FAQs
Why is EFT better
when compared with other advanced
therapies?
- EFT often works where all else has
failed.
- If there is anything you want to
keep private you can do. I don't need
to know what your problem is (please
contact me for more detailed
explanation)
- EFT can be safely used on anyone
from babies to adults.
- EFT can be done via the phone or
over the Internet.
- EFT can help cure more disorders
than hypnosis can.
- EFT gets quicker results than
hypnosis.
- EFT does not waste time taking
people into a hypnotic trance. You can
begin to work on the problem straight
away.
- You are fully awake and take more
of a proactive part in the healing
process during an EFT session.
- EFT is 100% natural and does not
involve taking drugs.
- Like hypnosis EFT is safe,
painless, and effective.
I think in a few years to come EFT
will replace hypnosis and hypnotherapy as
the therapeutic cure of choice. We will
only see hypnosis being used by stage
hypnotists for entertainment purposes and
if chances provide for use in surgery.

EFT usually lasts a lifetime. If your
problem recurs it is normally due to an
allergy that you did not even know you
had. Not all allergies cause obvious
symptoms such as a rash.

FAQs
How is it
possible to conduct EFT over the phone or
the Internet?
EFT involves your tapping yourself on
certain pressure points on your body. I
have no need to touch you at all, or even
be in the same room as you. My role is to
help you formulate the correct phrases
you need to repeat and to tell you which
points to tap.

FAQs
Is EFT hard to
do?
With my instructions EFT can be done
by anybody.

FAQs
When I tried EFT
it did not work.
Then you applied EFT wrongly. Just
tapping on the various tapping points
will do nothing for you. EFT is also
based on psychology. To make the EFT work
for you then you have to understand the
psychology of EFT. You also have to know
how to work out the root causes of the
problem. I strongly suggest you seek help
from a professional!

FAQs
If EFT is so good
why do doctors not use
it?
EFT is rapidly gaining popularity
amongst health care professionals in all
areas of medicine and therapy. In the
future I predict EFT will be the first
choice treatment for a lot of people in
the healthcare industry because it is
cost effective, it works, it's easy to do
and it does not involve drugs or
expensive equipment.
I suspect the drug companies will not
be happy and try to discredit EFT at some
point in the future.

FAQs
Should I inform
my doctor?
That depends on what you are treating.
EFT is perfectly safe, although you
should inform your doctor or healthcare
professional if you are using EFT to
treat medical complaints like depression,
asthma, diabetes high blood pressure,
allergies, etc
However, if you are using EFT for
sports performance or a simple
arachnophobia (spider phobia) there is no
real need to inform your doctor.
When you are informing your doctor or
healthcare professional please give
him/her this website address so they can
also gain an understanding of EFT and its
various benefits.

should try it on everything”.
EFT will only work on suitable subject
matters. It is perfectly safe to work on
any problems you have.

a convert.
